Balboa Park Resident Free Tuesday (1st Tuesday)

Hey There:

Tuesdays have slowly become my Saturdays, with Taco Tuesday deals across town, Tipsy Tuesday drink specials and during the day time Resident Free Tuesday at Balboa Park. This deal is for all San Diego City & County residents with a valid ID, active military & their dependents; each week different museums don't charge the entrance fee and/or have deals on special exhibitions.

These are the free museums for the First Tuesday of the Month:

  • Reuben H. Fleet Science Center
  • Centro Cultural de la Raza
  • San Diego Model Railroad Museum
  • San Diego Natural History Museum

This is a great museum for children, full of interactive games that are geared to be fun and teach at the same time - these games are fun for adults too, I know! They also have very unique IMAX shows, recently I watched Deep Sea, sitting at the bottom rows it was like I was totally submerged underwater and after that experience I want to see them all!

One of the museums close to my heart, though I admit I go there for special events and not really on Free Tuesdays because it's a bit of a walk and I get lazy. The murals inside and outside the buildings are a great treat to look at, they are full of pre-Hispanic and modern history. Apart from the murals, they also have select artwork with a Chicano influence. If you've never been there is is the best time to go for a first visit!

Such a fun museum, there is something so fascinating about seeing model trains going round and round through mountains and little towns and little stations, at least in my case, it brings a sense of peace and wonder. At the museum there is a section where children can play and everybody can feel free to take pics. Awesome museum!

What can I say about this one, so many amazing exhibitions, take this opportunity to check out the special exhibitions at a discount, as well as their 3D movies. Most of their collections are permanent, so no surprises there. The cool things are on the basement where I once saw the Dead Sea Scrolls and on the 2nd and 3rd floors the exhibitions are rotating, right now they have Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition and my favorite so far Skulls!!

So there you have it, lots to do on a Tuesday that does not involve eating or drinking - that can be done afterwards!
